Kabali, ever since this name was revealed in the social media, everyone was thrilled to find out what it is all about. Their excitement doubled with joy when they came to know that it was the name of Thalaiva Rajinikanth’s new Tamil film. The name itself created a hysteria as mad Rajni fans were so happy that their demi god is doing a hardcore gangster drama after his own hit film Basha.
Going back in time, Rajni’s daughter Soundarya says that after watching a special show of Karthi’s Madras, Rajni straight away asked who this talented director was and showed his urge to work with him right away. Kabali Review Story Behind Title
So many names like Kaali and Kannabhiran were considered during the beginning. But when Ranjith suggested the title Kabaliswaran, Rajni okayed it on the spot and the film was named Kabali which was a shortened version of the title. What was quite appreciable of Ranjith was the way he repeated most of his old team from Madras and was not scared to use new names for such a big project.
Kabali Review Producer Branding the film
Then came the turn of the producer Thanu who had worked with Rajni during the 80’s. Rajni called his old friend and asked him to produce this project as well and the ball went rolling from June 2015. By August end 2015, the project went on floors and was mostly shot in Malaysia and Honk Kong.
Rajni plays an aging gangster who fights for he rights of Tamils in Malaysia. And for this, he himself suggested that he would sport his natural beard and designed his own look. Yes ! that is a budget of at least four to five Telugu small budget films. Air Asia came forward for their collaboration and an entire flight from their company was painted with Kabali logos to create awareness. Not leaving at that, Muthoot finance even printed gold and silver coins on Rajni’s name to create a even more hype for the film.
Things became gigantic when the film did a pre-release business of 220 crores even before the release of the film. The satellite, audio, video and various other rights fetched the makers amounts which were even new for Indian cinema. The release was also planned in such a way that the film will find its screening in over 4500 screens world wide. It will also open in the famous Le Grand theater in Paris making it the first Tamil film to do so.
