President Obama spends
Monday honoring groups of
young African leaders and
distinguished artists.
In the morning, Obama hosts a
town hall at the the Summit of
the Washington Fellowship for
Young African Leaders.
The fellowship program is
designed to "give 500 of sub-
Saharan Africa's most
prominent young leaders the
opportunity to engage with
U.S. government officials,
entrepreneurs and civil society
representatives as well as
leaders in international
development," says the White
House schedule.
The president will also rename
the African fellowship program
in honor of the late South
African freedom fighter Nelson
Mandela.
In the afternoon, Obama will
host a program for the winners
of the 2013 National Medal of
Arts and the National
Humanities Medal.
Arts recipients include singer
Linda Ronstadt, dancer-
choreographer Bill T. Jones and
Broadway composer John
Kander.
Humanities honorees include
radio host Diane Rehm and
historian David Brion Davis.
