I'm a car collector and this is what I
did to my '66 Stang "A" body.
Restored car to original color and
installed new vinyl top. Engine was
good, but tranny (C3) was rebuilt and
beefed up. I did some mild engine
upgrades and got more than enough to
be happy. So I'll advise you to do some
work on the original engine. Parts will
be easy to find, you'll have control
over the rebuild and add things that
will give you better power than a crate
engine. Installed a full GT suspension
and had some custom Centerline
wheels spun for the car (16"). Added
extra heavy anti-sway bars and
Flowmaster exhaust system.
You'll need to improve the intake
breathing with a 4 bbl carb (no more
than 500 cfm), polished intake and
slightly larger valves. Install a new
electronic distributor and high energy
coil. If you replace the cam, go with a
medium lope version. This will give
you a very street able car and not be
to thirsty on fuel.
