Defence Analyst, Martin Navias believes that
it was most likely Ukraine rebels in posession
of a surface to air missile who are
responsible for shooting down Malaysia
Airlines flight MH17, which was downed over
the Ukraine-Russia border today, killing all
298 on board.
Speaking to the Telegraph Mr Martin said
that a shoulder-launch missile "are of no use
whatsoeve" when it comes to bringing down
commerical airliners which "are flying at
heights of over 10,000 metres".
If it was a surface to air missile, it would
have had to have been a medium range self-
propelled type of missile, Mr Martin added.
He explained that Ukraine, Russia and
Ukrainian rebels are all equally viable
suspects in the aircraft's demise - with all
having access to the weapons systems that
would have been capable of bringing down
the Boeing 777.
